The sample was from a diesel engine remanufacturer and is generated from cleaning the engine and parts prior to disassembly. The sample was tested and it contained a lot of alkaline cleaners and surfactants (foamed when shaken) and was at a pH of 10.5. The goal was to reduce the Oil and Grease (O&G) to below 150 ppm, as this is the city discharge limit. The metals were not of concern according to the customer.

Initial jar tests were not successful in removing all of the suspended solids and color from the water. The sample was then ozonated at a high dosage for 3 hours as a step to prefractionate the emulsified oils.

Jar testing showed that a dosage of 10-grams/1,000 ml of Floccin™ HP with 1ml of 50% caustic was needed with high mixing to get the water to break (as seen in the picture below). This dosage equates to 84 lbs/1,000 gallons of Floccin™ HP. The treated water was clear with suspended solids less than 20 ppm.

Integrated Engineers conducted a treatability test that showed the Floccin™ K worked extremely well at a dosage of 3 grams/1,000 ml of wastewater (treatment dosage of 25 lbs. of Floccin™ K to 1,000 gallons of wastewater) with the addition of 0.5 ml of 20% diluted caustic. The treated pH was 7.0. The floc formed was good and the water clarity excellent.
